Gebel el Silsileh (Mountain of the Chain) lies north of Aswan near Kom Ombo. The sandstone provided the building materials for Luxor and Karnak Temples. Both sides of the Nile were quarried. The eastern quarry is still in use. Here the water Gods: Hapi, Sobel, Heqet, as well as Amun – Re and Ptah were worshipped. The remains of graffiti, votive shrines and unfinished statues belong to the reign of Hatshepsut, Tutmose III, Amenhotep II, Rames II and III.
